Nigeria Police Trust Fund Launches First-Ever Empowerment Scheme for Spouses of Junior Officers
The National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Chief Mrs. Olufunmilola Mutiat Disu, has applauded the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) for launching its maiden Skill Acquisition and Empowerment Programme for spouses of junior police officers, describing the initiative as a strategic investment in national security.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held on Monday, Chief Disu commended the Executive Secretary, Management and Board of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund for conceiving and implementing the programme, which she said demonstrates a clear understanding that supporting police officers begins with supporting their families.
She also praised the Inspector-General of Police for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of officers and their families, noting that his leadership has continued to inspire meaningful partnerships and impactful welfare initiatives.
According to the POWA President, the programme marks the beginning of new opportunities, renewed hope and greater economic independence for hundreds of police families across the country.
She stressed that empowering the spouses of police officers is not an act of charity but a strategic investment that enhances the morale, professionalism and effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force.
Chief Disu noted that by providing practical vocational training and entrepreneurship opportunities, the Nigeria Police Trust Fund is creating pathways to sustainable livelihoods, financial resilience and dignity for police families.
She explained that the initiative aligns with POWA’s vision of promoting the welfare of police families through skills acquisition, entrepreneurship support, healthcare interventions, educational opportunities and assistance to widows and other vulnerable families.
The POWA National President emphasized that sustainable welfare can only be achieved through collaboration, commending the partnership between the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, the Nigeria Police Force and POWA.
She called on government agencies, parastatals and corporate organisations to emulate the initiative by investing in the welfare and empowerment of police families.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Chief Disu urged them to take full advantage of the opportunity by embracing the training with discipline and dedication, saying the skills acquired should become the foundation for successful businesses capable of improving their families’ standard of living.
She assured the Nigeria Police Trust Fund of POWA’s continued support, adding that the association’s State Chairpersons would work closely with implementing teams to ensure the sustainability of the programme nationwide.
Expressing optimism about the future of the initiative, she expressed hope that it would be expanded across the federation to reach more police families.
Chief Disu reiterated that a stronger Police Force begins with stronger police families, adding that every investment in their welfare is an investment in a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.
She congratulated all beneficiaries and commended the Nigeria Police Trust Fund for what she described as a visionary initiative that would promote self-reliance, enterprise and lasting prosperity.
