FG Releases ₦38.93bn for Infrastructure Revitalisation in Public Tertiary Institutions
The Federal Government has disbursed ₦38.93 billion to 166 public tertiary institutions as part of efforts to tackle infrastructure challenges and strengthen Nigeria’s tertiary education system.
The funding was released under the Needs Assessment Revitalisation Fund and is intended to support approved projects across universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.
In a statement, the Federal Ministry of Finance said the intervention covers 79 universities, 46 polytechnics and 41 colleges of education across the country.
The allocation breakdown indicates that universities received ₦28.5 billion, representing the largest share of the fund, while polytechnics received ₦5.8 billion.
Colleges of education were allocated ₦4.7 billion to support projects aimed at improving infrastructure and addressing identified institutional needs.
The ministry explained that the disbursement aligns with the Federal Government’s efforts to improve conditions in public universities and implement commitments reached with the Academic Staff Union of Universities under their Memorandum of Understanding.
The funds are expected to enable the beneficiary institutions to begin or advance approved projects, particularly those designed to address critical infrastructure deficiencies and improve teaching and learning environments.
The government further emphasised the need for effective coordination among the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Federal Ministry of Education and the beneficiary institutions to ensure that the intervention achieves its intended objectives.
According to the ministry, accountability and effective implementation will be crucial to converting the released funds into tangible improvements in educational facilities and institutional capacity.
