OHOPRS Will Transform Lives of Vulnerable Nigerians, Says Minister Doro
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard M. Doro, has said he adopted a reform-driven approach immediately after assuming office to ensure that government interventions make a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of vulnerable Nigerians.
Dr. Doro made the remarks on Friday, July 31, 2026, while receiving the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), Pharmacist Ibrahim Baba Shehu Ahmed, FPSN, and his delegation during a courtesy visit to his office in Abuja.
The Minister commended the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria and the pharmaceutical profession for their commitment to safeguarding public health through effective regulation of the sector. He particularly praised the Council’s efforts in curbing the activities of quack practitioners and urged it to sustain its drive towards ensuring a healthier society.
Highlighting the Ministry’s flagship initiative, the One Humanitarian One Poverty Reduction System (OHOPRS), Dr. Doro explained that the programme provides an integrated framework that aligns humanitarian response, social protection, and poverty reduction initiatives under a unified national coordination mechanism.
According to him, the initiative is designed to eliminate fragmentation, duplication, and isolated interventions across humanitarian and social protection programmes while creating sustainable pathways to resilience, economic empowerment, and long-term self-sufficiency for vulnerable citizens.
The Minister expressed the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate with the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria in areas of mutual interest to advance the nation’s humanitarian and development goals.
Earlier, the Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, Pharmacist Ibrahim Baba Shehu Ahmed, said the visit was to congratulate Dr. Doro on his appointment and commend the strategic reforms he has initiated since assuming office.
He assured the Minister of the Council’s support, expressing confidence in his ability to transform the humanitarian sector with his wealth of national and international experience.
Pharmacist Ahmed also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for appointing Dr. Doro, describing the Minister as a globally experienced professional whose expertise would positively impact the sector.
He noted that the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria is the statutory body responsible for regulating pharmacy practice in the country in line with international best practices. He added that the Council operates offices across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory, with its headquarters in Abuja and a special zonal office in Lagos.
The Registrar further stated that the Council works closely with other organisations to promote quality healthcare delivery and requested a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction in areas of shared responsibility.
