IGP SITREP: Police Recover 350 Rounds of Ammunition, Neutralise Three Suspects Nationwide

Nigeria Police operatives recorded significant operational successes across 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), rescuing five kidnapped victims, arresting 14 suspects, recovering firearms, ammunition and stolen vehicles, according to the latest Daily Situation Report (SITREP).
The report, submitted to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Iniedu, covers major security incidents and operational outcomes for the reporting period ending July 8, 2026.
According to the report, police operatives in Bauchi State, working with other security agencies, rescued three kidnapped victims during an operation around the Yankari Game Reserve. Although no suspects were arrested, security personnel have continued tactical operations to apprehend the fleeing kidnappers.
In Benue State, police arrested the principal suspect linked to the murder of Professor Gabriel Saawua Nyityo and his son at an NDLEA checkpoint. Operatives also neutralised a suspected bandit during an operation in Logo Local Government Area, recovering ammunition, a motorcycle and charms. Efforts are ongoing to rescue a woman abducted in Katsina-Ala.
In Delta State, officers rescued a female kidnap victim who was found unconscious and rushed her to hospital for treatment.
Police in Edo State launched a bush-combing operation following the abduction of a cattle dealer. The command also arrested an official of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) over alleged cultism and recovered a pump-action gun.
In the FCT, police recovered two stolen vehicles and arrested two suspects for vehicle theft, including the same-day recovery of a stolen Toyota RAV4.
In Gombe State, four suspects were arrested in connection with a fatal land dispute that resulted in the death of one victim.
A major breakthrough was also recorded in Imo State, where police recovered 346 rounds of assorted ammunition and seven magazines during a raid on a swamp. Operatives also foiled an assassination attempt, arresting four suspects and recovering two locally made pistols and additional ammunition.
In Jigawa State, police commenced a forest search after gunmen killed a man and abducted his wife in a Fulani settlement.
In Nasarawa State, police recovered a pistol linked to a homicide investigation and rescued one of three kidnapped university students, while efforts continue to rescue the remaining two victims.
In Niger State, police arrested a mentally unstable suspect over the alleged killing of one person and the injury of two others.
In Ogun State, a 60-year-old Imam was arrested over the alleged defilement of a 15-year-old girl and an attempted unlawful termination of her pregnancy.
In Ondo State, police neutralised two suspected kidnappers during a foiled attack and recovered a pistol, a live cartridge and other exhibits.
In Sokoto State, four suspected cattle rustlers were arrested and two stolen sheep recovered, leading to wider recovery operations. The command also responded to a bandit attack that claimed one life, injured another person and led to the theft of a motorcycle, with security operatives currently pursuing the suspects.
In Plateau State, police arrested a suspect found in possession of a locally fabricated pistol and a knife at a health centre, where he had allegedly caused public panic.
The national operational statistics for the reporting period showed that police arrested 14 suspects, recovered four firearms, 350 rounds of ammunition and three stolen vehicles, rescued five kidnapped victims and neutralised three armed suspects.
The report also recorded six homicide cases, eight kidnapping incidents, one banditry case, one cultism case and one gender-based violence incident, while no cases of armed robbery or terrorism were reported.
The Force Public Relations Officer observed that kidnapping remains the most prevalent serious crime, stressing that sustained intelligence sharing, rapid response operations, inter-agency collaboration and community engagement are essential to consolidating ongoing security gains across the country.
The report further noted that the recovery of large caches of ammunition and the neutralisation of armed criminals demonstrate the effectiveness of ongoing police operations while underscoring the need for continued efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal arms and strengthen security nationwide.
